Abstract

We investigate the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on firms located in Okinawa both qualitatively and quantitatively. Using firm-level data, we find that the pandemic-related shocks are unequally distributed across sectors and locations. Firms that were located in the Miyako islands and the Northern area or that served finance or retail services are likely to suffer from the consequences of a prolonged pandemic. It is effective in building resilience that by establishing an essential business management system, including compliance with laws and regulations, and by forming organizational capabilities that can respond to rapid changes in the circumstances.
