Abstract

To promote a recycling-oriented society, it is essential to promote recycling as a resource, which can be achieved through more accurate sorting. On the other hand, waste sorting in the waste treatment field is facing a labor shortage due to the declining birthrate and aging population, as well as a high workload due to the removal of foreign substances. We have developed an AI-equipped waste sorting support system (K-Repros®) using collaborative robots to support hands' sorting of recyclable waste at recycling facilities. The system has been introduced to the glass bottle sorting operation at the Iwanuma East Environmental Center since FY2022.In FY2023, we are developing educational activities by enhancing observation facilities for local children through this system, with the aim of improving the waste sorting awareness of local residents. This paper presents a case study of K-Repros® and educational activities using this system.
