Abstract

Libraries are losing strength due to budget and staff cuts, making it difficult to respond to new needs. Selecting books is a specialized task that determines the books to be accepted into the library. However, the author thinks that librarians are not fully demonstrating their own expertise. This paper proposes a proposal to assist librarians in demonstrating their expertise in book selection work. Research, analysis, design, and evaluation were conducted based on human-centered design. Ideas for communicating books selected by librarians to library users were devised and storyboards were created. Concept testing was conducted to evaluate librarians' receptiveness to the ideas and their willingness to use them. The results of the evaluation are using to refine and improve the ideas and put them into practice. To elucidate whether the ideas can assist librarians in demonstrating their expertise in book selection and its effectiveness.
