Abstract

<p>In Japan, theabsence of quality standards for woody biomass fuels (chips and pellets) hascaused fluctuations in fuel quality. This has hindered the efficient operationof power plants and heat utilization facilities. In this study we observed outof the 36 sample ashes, 23 expanded and foamed between 650 and 900°C in both CO2 andreducing atmosphere. Since ash species with high potassium content areprevalent throughout the country, it is essential to consider ashcharacteristics when developing applications for woody biomass.</p>
