Abstract

This practical research examined the results of students’ audio-recording activity by using "Google Classroom" online application at the author’s current senior high school. Under the COVID-19 pandemic situation, it has been difficult for English teachers to have students speak aloud in English in regular classes. Many schools have introduced online ICT devices to keep conducting English class even if school closed due to COVID-19. Reading aloud practice in English classes has also been increasing so far in high schools in Japan. In order to increase the opportunities for students to practice reading aloud at home, the author conducted the trial assignments to have students record their reading passages on "Voice-memo" application, and send the recorded voice sound through the "Google Classroom" application. The result showed that the number of reading aloud of students has increased, and their awareness toward "reading aloud" has changed positive way compared with the one in the past. The continuous improvement could be inquired based on the students’ subjective surveys.
