Abstract
Abstract Taking the animated film Kiki’s Delivery Service (produced by Studio Ghibli, distributed by Toho), this study examines the mental growth of the 13-year-old witchin-training Kiki and how she was supported by those around her from a clinical psychological perspective. This study interprets the changes in Kiki from the standpoint of encountering “things going awry.” The author hopes that this can serve as a guide to support the many adolescents who struggle in their lives. In the city where she trains, Kiki feels down because of the numerous realities that do not go her way, which she never experienced in her home village, and is overcome by negative emotions inside her and finally even losing her magical ability. We can think of Kiki as living through “things going awry” in what may be called a “radicalized” form. Based on this, we consider how Kiki was supported by the people around her as she overcame this crisis.
