Abstract

This study explores the potential expectations of parents on their children's usage of video games and participation in eSports. To accelerate the growth pace of eSports in Japan, it is critical to crack the parent's conservative perception and attitude toward video games in general and eSports in particular. This study conducts empirical analysis of the parent's perception and attitude towards eSports especially in the educational contexts through a large-scale quantitative survey. Key findings include the critical role of the parent's overall understanding of eSports and their active mediation to their children's game play on a daily basis.
