Abstract

Synergy effects are increasing in importance in the evolution of platform ecosystems. This study focuses on the influence of platform synergy effects on consumer perceived value, analyzing 405 smart home products collected from Amazon.co.jp. The results show that for synergy with the platform, “device interoperability" and “multifunctionality" positively affect the number of reviews, while “product control interoperability" positively affects product ratings. On the other hand, for synergy with complements, “product connectivity" positively affects the number of reviews. This study suggests the importance of achieving synergy effects with the platform ecosystem and emphasizing synergy in product development.
