Abstract

The objective of this study is to understand how complementors' knowledge acquisition levels influence the performance of complementary goods within a platform ecosystem. The analysis utilized the Nexus Mods dataset to examine the effects of complementors' knowledge acquisition on the performance of complementary goods. The findings indicate that the 'complementors' knowledge sharing activities' demonstrate an inverted U-shaped impact on the quality of complementary goods, while positively affecting their popularity. Additionally, the 'complementors' complementary goods production experience' influences the quality and popularity of complementary goods in both positive and negative directions, respectively. These results suggest that achieving enhancements in both the quality and popularity of complementary goods requires a thoughtful consideration of the balanced interactions between these factors.
