Abstract

Generally, a steel beam is assembled with a concrete slab by mechanical shear connectors. Recent efforts on the shear connectors enabled structural engineers to realize stiff and ductile connections. However, their performance is usually assessed by the standard pushout tests; thus, the superiority at the member level is relatively untouched. This research first evaluates the shear stiffness of perfobond shear connectors, which was not quantified in earlier studies. Further, the flexural stiffness of the composite beam is derived, reflecting the interlayer slip. Ultimately, the superiority of respective connectors to stud shear connectors is visualized for future applications for building structures.
