Abstract

It is well known that wireless transmission technologies employing temporal and spatial combining and adaptive equalization and those employing re-samplers and coherent orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) are promising technologies for double selectivity of underwater acoustic communications (UWAC). However, the former needs many receive hydrophones and the later suffers from poor transmission efficiency for information symbols. In order to solve these issues, this paper proposes differential OFDM employing a phase offset insertion scheme for each subcarrier (SPO), multiple differential detection with channel prediction and parallel blind demodulation with respect to different re-samplers. Finally, computer simulation results confirm that the proposed differential OFDM has excellent performance in severe doubly-selective channel environments of UWAC.
