Abstract

This study focused on children’s facilities in the 23 wards of Tokyo to identify factors leading to the strengthening of institutional disaster preparedness. Based on questionnaires and interviews, analyses were conducted focusing on factors such as location, disaster preparedness, cooperation with the local community and support to the local community. The results showed that approximately 70% of the facilities have a partner for each type of disaster. It was also found that the background behind the disaster preparedness of children’s facilities is daily communication with the surrounding community and public support from the local authorities. However, it was also found that there are some issues with public support from local authorities, such as provisions for different types of facilities and conditions for receiving support.
