- Graded resonator metastructure and self-standing structural health monitoring

<p>A conventional metastructure in which the same vibration energy harvesters were periodically deployed causes a localization of power generation, which may pose a problem for realizing the self-standing structural health monitoring powered by the vibration energy harvester. To address the problem, we focused on the graded resonator metastructure in which the stiffness of the vibration energy harvesters gradually varies depending on the position of the main structure. Firstly, we developed an analysis technique coupled with the metastructure and practical circuits consisting of a rectifier and a switch subcircuit. Also, we mounted wireless sensor nodes which can transmit the vibration waveform on the metastructure to realize the self-standing structural health monitoring. Although the simulation did not perfectly match the experimental results, the simulation replicated the power generation from the tip to the end of the metastructure in a sequential manner. The wireless sensor node connecting to the harvester successfully transmit the vibrational waveform propagating the metastructure. We verified the self-standing structural health monitoring by combining the metastructure and the wireless sensor nodes.</p>
