Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the load transfer function of polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete (PPFRC) at transverse joints in concrete pavements. As a fundamental study, the shear strength was evaluated by direct shear tests. Plain concrete (PL) after shear cracking has load transfer by aggregate interlocking up to a certain crack width. On the other hand, the shear strength of PPFRC with the shear resistance of polypropylene fibers is higher than that of the PL even after initial shear cracking. In this shear test, the shear strength and the residual shear strength of PPFRC after shear cracking were evaluated using a direct shear test method modified from the JSCE standard. Furthermore, the size effect of shear strength was evaluated.
