Abstract

This study aims to explore the challenges and gender disparities experienced by female principals at elementary and junior high school under the <Education Reform>. Their life histories reveal struggles with inequality during promotion and assignment processes, as well as conflicts with teachers over policy and difficulties in enhancing administrative guidance, competitive achievement tests and merit-based evaluations. These principals have sought to exhibit an alternative form of leadership, characterized by support, care, and promotion of collegiality, as a counterpoint to traditional masculine leadership. Their achievements are not measured by high test scores of students or improved teacher performance, but rather by the personal growth of students, collaboration with teachers, and being role models for students.
