This paper reviews the history of this lifelong education philosophy, organizes the features of recurrent education that have emerged from it, and discusses the university as an institution of continuing higher education based on it from the following three perspectives. (1) What is the position of higher education institutions in individuals’ career development? (2) How should the conditions for recurrent education be organized? (3) What are the contents and forms of study and teaching methods in recurrent education?
