Abstract

In lingual orthodontics, setup is a mandatory step due to the anatomic variability of the lingual surfaces among patients. However, the manual setup has limitations because of its complicated laboratory procedures and requires time and specialized laboratory equipment. In addition, the manual setup accuracy is influenced by skill of the dental technician. Advances in digital technologies such as intraoral digital scanners and 3D model scanners and CAD/CAM are providing new possibilities in orthodontics. Recently, the application of CAD/CAM can be used to create digital setup and transfer jig. Both the digital setup and ordinary manual setup have advantages and disadvantages. In this report, a description of a new method of laboratory preparation for the indirect bonding of lingual brackets is given by merging manual and digital techniques.
