Description
<p>The Marangoni convection driven by temperature gradient in cylindrical droplet near phase transition points was investigated in some liquid crystals of cyanobiphenyl series. By using photo-bleaching method, we confirmed the existence of the characteristic flow near air interface in the coexistence state of different phases. In the 5CB, the flow direction on the interface is from isotropic to nematic phase, that is, the inverse flow direction in the 7CB. It is considered that the cause of these flows is different temperature dependence of surface tension for each sample.</p>
