Description

In this study, with the cooperation of Kaita School, a comprehensive school of elementary and junior high school in Iizuka City, we conducted an empirical examination of the effectiveness of a community contribution program incorporating inconvenience for the community awareness formation. Here, "inconvenience" refers to providing opportunities for students to engage in proactive activities against the “convenient situation” totally provided by the teachers. The results of the examination revealed that the higher the evaluation of the community contribution program was, the greater the willingness to contribute to the Kaita community, the willingness to contribute to the Kaita area, and the intention to re-participate in festivals were. Additionally, it was confirmed that these relationships became stronger as satisfaction with these festivals increased. It is finally suggested that the incorporating a certain level of autonomy in students within community contribution programs in school education is effective with fostering the place attachment.
