While professional services are currently a subject of interest in various fields, there is limited work that systematically integrates and organizes research on how professional service firms (PSFs) engage in learning and manage knowledge for long-term effectiveness and survival. This paper provides an overview of research publications on organizational learning in PSFs in leading academic journals and identifies five major PSF learning-related research themes to strengthen the theoretical foundation of organizational learning in PSFs. Moreover, this paper illustrates how these research themes have evolved and provides an in-depth analysis of the analysis units, research methodologies, industry contexts, and geographic scope of these journal articles. Finally, this paper concludes with a discussion of future directions.
