Abstract
A series of 3-(N-substituted)aminopropylsilyl silica gels newly developed for HPLC has been reported for an easy separation of biologically active compounds, such as water-soluble vitamins, by isocratic elution. Through expectations of a π-π interaction, five kinds of 3-aminopropylsilyl silica gel were prepared; these were substituted with π-π electron systems at the amino group by the reaction of the gel with two species of organic dyes (5-amino-2, 3-dicyano-1, 4-naphthoquinone or 1, 4-diamino-9, 10-anthraquinone-2, 3-dicarboxylic anhydride) or aromatic dicarboxylic anhydrides (phthalic anhydride, 2, 3-naphthalenic anhydride or 1, 8-naphthalenic anhydride). Basic examinations of the characteristics of the HPLC columns prepared by using these gels were carried out in order to separate compounds related to nucleic acids, i.e. adenine derivatives. The preparation of gels immobilized with organic dyes is new, and its use for HPLC is hopefully expected for separation by a π-π interaction mode.
