Abstract

Glow discharge mass spectrometry (GDMS) using Kr/0.2 vol.%H2 mixture has been studied. The relative sensitivity factors (RSFs) for the analysis of 23 elements were determined based on a multiple determination of 10 reference materials representing steels, heat-resisting alloy, copper, aluminum, molybdenum and indium. The proposed method decreases the matrix effect, compared with the results obtained by Kr gas alone. In addition, when the technique combined with a liquid-nitrogen cryogenic-cooling Mega cell was used, a linear relationship was found to exist between the RSF values on the logarithmic scale and the first ionization potential of the elements. This proposed method may be determined without the use of standard reference materials.
