Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a simple method for detection of genetically modified soybean (GMS), Roundup Ready® (Monsanto company), a herbicide-tolerant soybean, in which 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3- phosphate synthase (EPSPS) gene has been replaced by herbicide-tolerant gene (CP4EPSPS). DNAs extracted from soybean samples were amplified by polymerase chain reaction and analyzed by agarose gel electrophoresis. As the result, the CP4EPSPS gene was successfully detected as SYBR Gold®-stained fluorescent band whose concentration was almost proportional to the concentration of GMS in the sample. By applying this method to processed foods of soybeans, the temperature and the time of heating process were proved to influence on the detectability of the CP4EPSPS gene, probably by shortening the DNA molecule.
