Description
Mutual separation of platinum group metals by gas chromatography was investigated. Five kinds of platinum group metal-trifluoroacetylacetone (Htfa) chelates, i. e., Ru(tfa)3, Rh(tfa)3, Pd(tfa)2, , Ir(tfa)3, and Pt(tfa)2, were prepared, and the thermogravimetric curves of these chelates in a stream of helium containing Htfa vapor were obtained by utilizing an injection chamber of a gas chromatograph equipped with a ligand vapor generator. It was found that all of the chelates were completely sublimed in the temperature range from 150 °C to 180 °C. Moreover, the elution behaviors and mutual separation of these chelates were investigated using twelve kinds of sta tionary liquids (2 % and 10 % OV-17, PPE-6R, OV-210, OV-225, PEG20M, and OV-275) coated on Chromosorb W AW DMCS {(6080) mesh} packed in Pyrex glass column (1.0 m × 2.5 mmi. d.). The fol lowing results were found under the gas chromatographic conditions of the column temperature 140 °C and the flow rate 30 ml/min. 1) Pt chelate could be isolated from the mixture of five chelates by using the column of 10 % OV-17. 2) The mixture of Ru, Rh, Pd, Ir, Pt chelates could be separated into four groups or elements (Rh + Ir, Ru, Pd, Pt) by using the column of 10 % PPE-6R. 3 Rh and Jr chelates could not be separated completely under various gas chromatographic conditions investigated.
