In recent years, oil and gas prices have been soaring due to perceived supply-demand imbalance and inflow of money from speculative investors. In order to meet the increasing demand, oil and gas E&P companies have increased their activities significantly in deep water and remote area exploration, in development of new fields and unconventional hydrocarbon and in enhancement of production and recovery rate.<br>According to the result of one of the surveys conducted last year, surprisingly, it was found that one of the most urgent problems E&P companies were facing was “shortage of skilled workers”, that surpassed easily expected answers such as “shortage of equipment and materials”, “increased cost” and “difficulties to secure new concessions”.<br>Schlumberger is one of the major integrated oil field service companies that operates in more than 80 countries with 80,000 employees and we are not exempt from the skill shortage problems, either. Of course, the degree of the problem and adequate solution to the problem are different for each company or organization but in this paper, I would like to demonstrate how Schlumberger sees the skill shortage problems and how we are addressing the issues, as an example.
