Description
Simultaneous observations of earth tides were performed with 5 LaCoste and Romberg gravimeters (model G) during the period of about 3 months from December 10, 1976 to March 12, 1977 at the International Latitude Observatory of Mizusawa. The main purpose of the observations is to make clear the points to be duly considered in tidal gravimetric observations by means of the LaCoste and Romberg gravimeters with a read out device and an automatic recorder, and therefore to standardize the observed data. Data each thirty minutes obtained from records were used for analysis and the VENEDIKOV'S method was applied to the data for getting the tidal factor of gravity and phase lag. The following three points were ascertained from the present investigation. (1) An offset angle of the gravimeter gives a significant effect to phase lags. It is preferable that the offset angle should be kept around 240 seconds. (2) Tidal factors of gravity for each constituent are not always coincident with some of the gravimeters, whereas the ratio of the tidal factors of gravity is almost constant for all the gravimeters. This means that a scale constant for the gravimeter should accurately be calibrated in observations. (3) As the LaCoste and Romberg gravimeter is astatic, changes in sensitivity come from changes in tilting. It is advisable that the gravimeter should be installed within 1 second of change in tilting and 1°C of change in room temperature.
