抄録

Many sort of synthetic resins had been tried to apply to the restoration of cultural property as materials in 1950's by small numbers of scientists and studio masters. In those years, suppliers of resins could not understand required performance of synthetic resins for restoration technicians. In the result, many accidents were occurred in the restoration of cultural property. Some examples such as poly(vinyl alcohol) and artificial wood are described. After that, many studios of restoration have refused the application of synthetic resins. In these years, some scientists and some restoration engineers have done co-operation for the application of synthetic resins in the field of restoration and preservation of cultural property, for finding their new usages. Acrylic resins, carbon fiber, and transparent over coat are described as some good examples.
