Photolysis of Poly methyl isopropenyl ketone (PMIK) by 313nm irradiation was studied by the comparision of methyl methacrylate-methyl isopropenyl ketone (3.2mol% in polymer) copolymer [poly (MMA-MIPK)]. Photodegradations of both polymers were more easily proceeded in dioxane and quantum yields were 2.4×10-3 (PMIK) and 3.9×10-3 [poly (MMA-MIPK)]. These reactions were Norrish Type I reaction, and the mechanisum of Norrish Type II reaction by the way of seven menbered ring transition state could be denied.<br>Quenching of the photolysis of these polymer was carried out in benzene by the use of triplet quencher, cis-1, 3-cyclooctadiene. Stern-Volmer relations of the quenchings were linear and quenching rates (Kqτ) were 3.9 1/mol (PMIK) and 1.1 1/mol [poly (MMA-MIPK)].
