Description

Reciprocity law failure of commercial ortho-lithfilms has been examined. The lithfilm combined with the lithdeveloper makes high contrat images adequate for printing.
The lithdeveloper is alkaline hydroquinone developer having very low concentration of free sulfite ion. The lithemulsion, like common photographic emulsions, shows reciprocity law failure. However, very few reports of reciprocity curves of lithemulsions have been published.
Reciprocity law failure and distribution of latent images were measured with three commercial lithfilms; film-A, film, B and Konilithfilm.
The experimental results are summarized as follows;
1) These three emulsions show great difference in high-intensity reciprocity failure, but little in low-intensity reciprocity failure. And high-intensity reciprocity failure is greater than low-intensity reciprocity failure. Especially Konilith shows little high-intensity reciprocity failure.
2) High-intensity reciprocity failure is more increased by lithdeveloper than by MQ-developer.
3) High-intensity reciprocity failure is due to the latent image being formed in the interior of grains when the exposure time is decreased.
The lithdeveloper, which is surface image developer, increases high-intensity reciprocity failure.
