Abstract

Environmental chemical pollutants are products which persistingly remain in the environment and have harmful effect on humans. Control of these effects is important since plants, fish, birds, animals, as well as humans may be endangered. Measures for DDT and PCB control should serve as basis for protecting the environment. Herbicides, industrial products, such as PCB and plasticizers, and nonintentional products, such as polychlorinated hydrocarbons, dioxins and dibenzofurans may all possibly have adverse effect on the endocrine system. The effects of these substance are examined, and the importance of TRTR (pollutant release and transfer register) is discussed.
