Description

An analysis of the basic blowing actions in "Kendo" was made in terms of posture transformation, reaction time, motion time and electromyogram so as to clarify the differences between the Kendoist and the non-trainee. Results obtained were as followings : 1. The postural transformation of the Kendoist was found to be reasonably controled when he gave blow to his opponent. At the same time, he showed counteractive and extension reflex action in his blowing posture, whereas it was not observed for the non-trainee. 2. The Kendoist's reaction time to a stimulus was faster than that of the non-trainee and that of the former became even faster after one hour of training. 3. The motion speed of the Kendoist showed gradual acceleration and it became fastest at the moment of impact, so that the blowing was made more effectively. 4. The electromyograms of the flexors and the extensors of the Kendoist showed alternative electrical discharges, which were supposed to be due to the reciprocal innervation of the muscle groups which was effective in making smooth action. The muscle groups of the legs of the kendoist started their electrical discharges much quicker than those of the non-trainee. From above results it might well be said that the Kendoist was performing his blows in a very reasonable and harmonious way, which contributed to his effective motion. Also, it could be supposed that the habituation of this dynamic posture might be of use for the improvement of good health in connection with the static posture.
