Abstract

Dithiolene complexes, which are metal complexes and organometallic dithiolene complexes incorporating dithiolene ligand, show attractive photophysical, conductive and magnetic properties due to their π-electron systems. This paper reviews on photoresponsiveness (photodissociation, photochromism, liquid crystal, photoluminescence and nonlinear optics) and its application (dye sensitized solar cell, photocatalyst and 1O2 quencher) of dithiolene complexes with introducing historical background and recent topics.
