Tetrakis(1-adamantanecarboxymethyl)methane was prepared by indirect esterification. DSC traces of tetrakis(1-adamantanecarboxymethyl)methane showed two endothermic peaks. Entropy ratio of these two peaks is: ΔStrs/ΔSfus = 1.58 > 1. XRD confirmed the solid–solid transition and analysis of XRD by DICVOL demonstrated tetrakis(1-adamantanecarboxymethyl)methane is a new compound with a highly disordered crystalline phase. Analysis of entropy changes at transitions showed why fusion entropy (ΔSfus = 70.07 J mol−1 K−1) of tetrakis(1-adamantanecarboxymethyl)methane is much larger than Timmermans’ criterion.
