Abstract

Measurement of carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios (δ13C, δ15N) has been applied in various environmental researches such as ecology and biogeochemistry. Environmental research by carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios could be classified into three subjects.
1)Source and its contribution analysis
2)Analysis of the reactions with isotope fractionation
3)Estimation of chemical equilibrium by the isotope exchange equilibrium
Most of the research using isotope ratios would belong to subject 1). By summarizing my research examples and related papers, I would like to introduce the characteristics of the environmental research using natural isotope ratios.
