Abstract

A free keyword system on newspaper scrap as a pilot system, has been operating for these 10 years. As keywords in the system are accumulated in proportion to the operation length, additional jobs are required in the keyword control and the system operation. Here convenient methods to minimize the capacity decline and to facilitate the system operation are discussed. The keywords which do not reappeared during 5 years after the last appearance in the scrap, are filed separately as non-active keyword from the main file, and the non-active keywords which have not appeared during past 10 years are omitted entirely from the file. This procedure cuts the size of the main key,word file to the quantity of the 6 years accumulation of keywords, and the size of non-active keyword file is about half of this mainfile. These file sizes are kept constant after the adoption of this procedure.
