Abstract

Softwares and hardwares for processing Japanese texts were initially developed for use in a limited area of Japanese speakers, though technical developments that take into account the complexities of the Japanese writing system may contribute to the enlargement of basic potentials of text processing or document processing technology in general. In the context of generalized Web based communication, multilingual resources including those in Japanese language become internationally available as possible choices for every user concerned. In this regard, it is to be noted that the technical details of the Japanese document processing that most fulfills local needs are now considered as well to constitute an integral part of the internationalization of basic technologies underlying the Internet.
