Description

Japanese action for research misconduct (fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism) is still some 25 years behind the USA. One of major reasons is that Japanese academics as well as society have not been serious about research misconduct even though many big scandals have happened. Scientific research is international and needs global standard of research integrity. To improve the Japanese situations, lessons from research misconduct overseas are helpful. We should know Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), post publication peer-review, VroniPlag Wiki, Retraction Watch, PubPeer, predatory publisher, and case studies of Milena Penkowa, Dong-Pyou Han, Diederik Stapel, Angela Adrian, Scott S. Reuben, and Hyung-In Moon.
