Abstract

The effect of benzazoles and related compounds (I to VII ; 25 in all) on the color of the developed silver image was examined with a liquid silver chloride emulsion developed by a dilute Phenidone-hydroquinone developer. Blue-black toning effect was found to be related strictly to adsorbability of the compound. Relative importance of acidic dissociation constant of benzimidazoles (I) was recognized.
