Abstract
The magnetic structures of the GdCu1−xZnx system have been studied by epithermal neutron diffraction and magnetization measurements. The antiferromagnetic (π, π, 0) order was detected in GdCu0.45Zn0.55 below 50 K, above which a superparamagnetic behavior appears. GdCu0.35Zn0.65 is almost ferromagnetic, but an inhomogeneous canting of the spin is anticipated at low temperatures. The magnetic phase diagram is distinctly different from that of the Tb(CuZn) system.
