Raman scattering spectra of the internal modes of KH2PO4 have been observed as a function of hydrostatic pressure in a range from 0 to 17.0 kbar at room temperature. Both frequencies of the ν1 and ν2 internal modes of the PO4 ion show linear dependences on pressure with the mode Grüneisen parameters, 0.32 for ν1, 0.31 for ν2, and the small value of 2.5×10−2 for the ν3 mode. The considerable increase of the frequencies of the ν1 and ν2 modes indicates a decrease of the P–O distance in the PO4 ion with pressure. The characteristic behavior of the ν3 mode is discussed in comparison with the ν1 and ν2 modes.
