Description

Recent developments on the studies of the anomalous Hall effect are reviewed from the quantum geometrical viewpoint. Accumulating evidences show that the intrinsic contribution due to the Berry phase of the Bloch wave functions plays a major role in this phenomenon at least in several materials. Extension of this idea to the spin Hall effect and many other phenomena in solids is also discussed.
