Abstract

Magnetic properties in VO2 have been studied in the temperature range from 100 to 380°K with the Mössbauer effect measurement of Fe57 doped in VO2. Above and below the transition temperature, no internal field is observed. The observation indicates that VO2 is paramagnetic even below the transition temperature and then it was concluded that the drastic transition in VO2 from semiconductor to metal is caused by some origin other than the magnetic ordering.<BR>The nature of the chemical bond in VO2 has been also discussed from the impurity effect on the magnetic susceptibility. The origin of the phase transition which appeared in V2O3 and VO2 was systematically discussed in the light of Goodenough’s model.
