Description

It is definitely necessary to prepare geographic metadata and clearinghouse in order to stimulate mutual exchanging of geographic data and avoid duplicated investment of data develop ment. Determination of metadata standard and system development for distributed search and retrieval play very important roles to realize clearinghouse preparation. This article describes activities of the Geographical Survey Institute (GSI) concerned with discussing metadata standard and applying ISO 23950, which is the international standard of protocol for information retrieval, to metadata search system. We also introduce the clearinghouse gateway developed by GSI based on these standards.
