Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of changes in taper and height on the retentive force of outer crowns made by the cast-on technique with titanium. The test pieces of conical telescopic crowns were prepared by milling with a taper of 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 degrees using pure titanium rods. Retentive force was then measured on outer crowns made by the cast-on technique, and we compared the effects of taper and height of the conical telescopic crowns on the retentive force. The following results and conclusions were obtained. 1. Retentive force decreased as the degree of taper of the conical telescopic crown increased. We found that the retentive force obtained scattered as the height of the outer crown increased. 2. Measured space between the outer and inner crowns increased as the degree of taper in the conical telescopic crown decreased and the height of the outer crown increased. 3. Retentive force was decreased by sandblasting inner crowns. The retentive force became constant with sandblasting treatment. 4. Retentive force decreased with lubricant coating on the conical telescopic crown made by cast-on technique.
