Description

This study was to establish a reliable bonding to dentin by applying primers to demineralized dentin which was collapsed by the air-drying after phosphoric acid etching. The combination of priming with 1% Phenyl-P dissolved in a 30% aqueous solution of HEMA(1P-30H)and HEMA provided good bonding to the substrate. The tensile bond strength increased significantly to 17.2MPa from 4.1MPa(p<0.01)by the second HEMA primer after 1P-30H priming. The failure mode of bonded specimens turned to the cohesive failure in the cured resin from the adhesive failure. The hybridized dentin was identified between dentin and cured resin by SEM and TEM examinations. It was revealed that there was no remaining exposed collagenous layer between the hybridized dentin and the intact dentin, and the hydroxyapatite was encapsulated by the copolymer in the deeper portion of the hybridized dentin contiguous to mineralized intact dentin.
