Abstract
This paper aims to clarify the historical transformation and spatial composition of Southern Canal Belt Park inShenyang China. Southern Canal Belt Park is a historical heritage of open space. At the end of Qing Dynasty, aplayground by the Wanquan River was built in the southeast of Shenyang City. The wetland around Wangquan Riverand other ponds were planned for parks and connected by parkway or the river in the Great Mukden Urban Planningin the 1930's. Though some streamlets were reclaimed, people trenched canal and made the waterway go throughparks and gardens in 1952. Park system was formed, and because of its nice environment, culture-education area setup on the southern area of this park system.
