Abstract

The purpose of this study is to indicate the merit and problem on the design discussion with the public. Through the interviews with three stakeholders, I found out the general merit and problems of Seattle Design Review. Through the analysis of the advice and citizens' opinions in the meetings, I discovered that the quality of the advice was changed from the first one to the second, and that the public sometimes discussed except design matters. As a conclusion, the advice with citizen's participation has increased the effect towards the applicant and a design discussion meeting would be an opportunity for the board members to educate the citizens in the way of evaluation of architectural design and urban landscape.
