Abstract

Rural community has the characteristics in lower level of transportation services, facilities in commerce and medical services, and dispersed residential locations. Elders who cannot drive a car tend to depend on the pick-up service by household members. The purpose of this study is to propose a new activity evaluation model, which can evaluate the value of the activity schedule in order to measure the feasibility of pick-up service in rural community. Using an activity diary and questionnaire survey collected in rural area, the value of activity timing and the value of activity time length with the saturating point are calculated by maximizing the activity value function which is solved by the Genetic Algorithm. The calculated value of activity schedule inserted with the pick-up activity showed that higher feasibility of the pick-up service between households in the rural surveyed field.
