Abstract

This paper aims to examine the trend of urban development permitted by the City Planning Law for 27 years and to make clear the spatial distribution characteristics and the effect factors of urban development in the Urbanization Control Area (UCA) of Fukui City from the macroscopic viewpoints. Main results are as follows: 1) The location weight of the urban development has shifted from the Urbanization Promotion Area (UPA) to the UCA since 1987, 2) In recent years the urban development mainly on industry and commerce has been extending widely and diversely in the UCA, 3) the road transportation condition as a main factor affects the generation of the urban development and the urban development pressure is still high due to the progress of road improvement and motorization.
