Abstract
This paper proposes an analytical model to evaluate quantitatively the roadside landscape to the surface of lakes. First, we propose three criteria such as the size, balance and perception of depth of appearance of lakes by using such as solid angles on a unit sphere located at an observer. Then we formulate a multiobjective optimization model associated with such three criteria, and the solution method to derive the Pareto-optimal locations by use of results in spherical geometry. Finally, we apply our model to the observation of Suwa-Lake and hinji-Lake to identify best viewpoints along roads by use of digital road maps.
